FERGUS FALL, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Students and teachers at iQ Academy Minnesota (iQMN), an online public school program of Fergus Falls Public Schools, will start the 2017-2018 school year on Sept. 5th. Tuition-free and open for all K-12 students in Minnesota, iQMN offers a personalized approach to learning that ensures every student receives an excellent educational experience.
Online school starts September 5 for #iQMN!
iQMN uses a Flipped Classroom Model, a learning approach that blends teacher support with independent exploration in the virtual classroom. Students explore a topic on their own with an online lesson, and then attend live, online “work together” sessions hosted by a teacher. During work together sessions, teachers facilitate deeper exploration of the topic through discussion, rather than solely through lecture. Teachers are also available through online office hours, where they can provide one-to-one support.
“As an online school, our personalized learning environment builds student confidence,” says Theresa Gallagher, iQMN operations manager. “And our families get the support they need to succeed.”
Minnesota-certified teachers lead hundreds of live online lessons in the core subjects of language arts, math, science and history across all grade levels. Lesson plans in each grade are integrated across subjects, so students can apply what they are learning in one class to the lessons they encounter in another.
With iQMN’s online platform, students pursue their academic goals at a pace that is appropriate for them. Advanced learners can progress quickly, while those who find concepts more challenging can take the extra time they need.
In elementary school, iQMN’s mastery-based curriculum allows students to advance when they have mastered content. A host of elective courses are available for middle and high school students, and Advanced Placement® classes are available to high schoolers.
iQMN students become adept at using technology for their course work, projects and time management, and have the opportunity throughout the year to meet their teachers and classmates in person, through school outings, field trips and social events.
