Letter: Support school choice

Originally published in The Record-Courier – February 10, 2019

I believe that every child deserves the right to learn in a safe environment. When my son Christopher was a victim of bullying, I decided to remove him from brick-and-mortar school. Fortunately, I found Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) and we haven’t looked back since.

At the online school, Christopher’s teachers encourage him to reach his full potential. Now, he’s in a setting where he’s comfortable and able to focus on his school work without being judged by his peers. OHVA has helped Christopher gain confidence and independence as he follows a path toward a successful future.

It’s been truly amazing to see just how much of a positive impact the online classroom has had on Christopher. Now, my son wakes up every day with a smile on his face, ready to tackle his classes. This positive outlook wouldn’t be possible without the opportunities online school has provided him. That’s why I urge Ohio to protect school choice so that all students can find the learning environment that works best for them.
