Online School Helps 10-Year-Old Battle Learning Disability

Originally aired on KARD-TV – May 04, 2018

Following a head injury, 10-year-old Amilia Vasquez was diagnosed with savant syndrome, causing her to lose her ability to write and read English, and suffer from severe headaches. When Amilia’s headaches wouldn’t go away, the family turned to Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA). Enrolling in the online school “took us to the next step,” says Amber Graves, Amilia’s mother. “Her test scores have climbed and stayed there.” LAVCA has helped Amilia thrive, and with perseverance and determination she is getting her education back on track.
