As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week May 7-11, I would like to shine a spotlight on a teacher who has gone above and beyond to help my grandson excel at California Virtual Academy.
Mrs. Tara Whitmore’s encouraging attitude has taught Damian the importance of determination within the classroom, and I am happy to see him grow as a student thanks to her instruction.
I decided to enroll Damian in a virtual learning environment because I believe his strengths lie in individual thinking. I’ve known Mrs. Whitmore for several years because she had also worked with my older grandson, a CAVA alum.
Mrs. Whitmore was extremely helpful in guiding me through the process of enrolling Damian and was enthusiastic about having him as a student before class began.
My favorite aspect of CAVA is the open communication between parents and teachers. I am always able to get a quick response back if I have questions. Mrs. Whitmore in particular stands out because of her approachability; it’s a sign of a good teacher when they make you feel comfortable enough to talk about personal issues regarding your student without judgment or negativity. Mrs. Whitmore makes herself available for help for not only high school matters, but also college prep guidance.
Thanks to Mrs. Whitmore, Damian achieved the honor roll in his first semester at CAVA, and he has gained skills in time-management while becoming more independent.
I am so grateful that Damian has been able to succeed in school thanks to the caring staff at CAVA, and especially Mrs. Whitmore!
