It is not where you start that counts, it is where you finish.
When Makayla Jenks was 7 years old, she and younger brother went into foster care after their biological parents fell into the hands of substance abuse. Just two years later, they were adopted by their foster family. The Jenks family took Makayla and her brother into their Grand Rapids home.
In high school, her parents were concerned that Makayla was surrounding herself with the wrong crowd and enrolled her in the Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA). At MVCA, she was able to focus on academics and sports. She was even able to graduate a year early. She will attend Michigan State University in the fall with full academic scholarship to study psychology. She wants to help people that went through similar situations she did as a child.
