Great Basin Virtual Academy and Destinations Career Academy of Nevada are now accepting enrollments for Fall 2016
(Business Wire) Enrollment opened today for two new statewide online public schools that will together serve Nevada students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The first school, Great Basin Virtual Academy (GBVA) is full-time online public school for Nevada students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The second school, Destinations Career Academy of Nevada (DCANV) offers an online public school for students in grades 9-12 and includes career concentrations in two CTE clusters; Business Management Administration or Health Sciences. Both schools are authorized by White Pine County School District and, as public school options, are tuition-free for Nevada residents.

Great Basin Virtual Academy features the award-winning curriculum from K12 Inc., the leading online K–12 curriculum provider and an AdvancED-accredited company. Students who enroll will receive an individualized education experience, designed to allow students find the learning style that works best for them. GBVA provides courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and music for students in grades K-8. Students will use web-based lessons and hands-on instructional materials that are shipped to their home, and will be supported by a state-certified teacher.
Destinations Career Academy of Nevada is a full-time online public charter school for students in grades 9-12. DCANV offers over 30 online courses, including world languages, AP courses and multiple versions of core subjects so that students will receive an education tailored to their goals, abilities and interests. Courses will be delivered online and students will receive a loaned computer, boxes of materials such as textbooks, CDs, videos, and other hands-on tools and resources. Graduates will receive a state-recognized diploma.
Part of the individualized education experience that DCANV offers is the opportunity for students to obtain specialty trade skills by offering four years of occupational training in an industry pathway of their choice. The school provides two programs option for students in key industries of growth in the state: Business Management Administration and Health Sciences. These courses expand the traditional education experience and allow students to earn industry-recognized certifications and college credits to give them a post-graduation edge.
Enrollment for Fall 2016 is now open for both schools and informational events are being held statewide to allow prospective families to meet school staff and to determine if online learning is right for them.
