Online Public School Provides Alternative to Traditional Brick-and-Mortar Education
TACOMA, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Washington Virtual Academy-Omak (WAVA), an accredited online public school, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-19 academic year. An Alternative Learning Experience school program of the Omak School District, WAVA is open to full-time and part-time students in kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the state of Washington.
Delivered entirely online, WAVA combines online instruction, rigorous curriculum and the support of state-certified teachers to provide a personalized experience for each student. WAVA students attend live virtual classes and access a robust online curriculum provided by K12 Inc., the nation’s leading provider of K-12 proprietary curriculum and online education programs.
WAVA’s rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music. Honors classes are available for high school students, who can also choose from a wide variety of career and technical electives. State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via phone, email, web-based classrooms and online discussions.
WAVA also offers two programs that allow students to earn college credit while in high school: Running Start offers dual enrollment at local colleges, while Tech Prep offers college-level technology or business courses.
Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment and schedule flexibility to facilitate extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. WAVA’s online platform allows students the flexibility to pursue their academic goals in the comfort and convenience of their homes with reduced distractions and parental involvement. Students and parents are able to build close and supportive relationships with teachers for improved student learning.
“I absolutely love WAVA,” said Rachel Lacy, whose daughters, Kariya and Seyler are in fifth and second grade, respectively, at Washington Virtual Academy. “My girls are getting a high-quality education with flexibility and personal attention. I love that I know exactly what my girls are being taught, and I love that this time-tested curriculum is presented in a fun and engaging way. And most of all, I love how invested the teachers are in my girls even though they don’t see them in person every day.”
Students at every grade level are encouraged to participate in school-sponsored social activities, such as recognition assemblies, clubs, outings and student leadership opportunities.
WAVA will host a number of in-person and online information sessions throughout the state during the enrollment period. For more information and a list of upcoming events, please visit http://wava.k12.com.
